Is Gluten Free Healthier?

It is time that I had to get on my soap box and write about this subject. I have so many clients eating gluten free. They feel they are being healthier. What people do not realize is this is one of the biggest scams in marketing history! One of the biggest responses I get from clients..... well its gluten free! They never even check the labels!
Let me digress a bit, stay with me. When our family started this journey we were just like many new clients I talk to. We bought all the gluten free crap. Frankly most of it tasted like crap! Sometimes I still have to remind my male family members (no offense guys) when they bring home a boxed item and say well its gluten free that it is not healthy to put in our bodies! This is a huge ploy to market people who are gluten intolerant. Also many people think with gluten free they will lose weight. Its quite the contrary!

I never rush through the grocery store. I take my time going over ingredients, making new recipes in my head and embracing the journey of health. I tell my clients don't think of what you can't have but how you can have it healthier. Of course if you buy less things with ingredients and fresh food that is the best option! I like my clients to think of their food before it comes into the grocery store. Where did it come from? Most of my clients respond with "I never thought of that!" Let's look at a simple label of gluten free pasta!

Ingredients: CORN FLOUR, RICE FLOUR, MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES
Corn and soy ingredients (corn meal, corn starch, corn syrup, soybean oil, soy lecithin) are found in a lot of gluten-free pastas, crackers, and cookies. When you see anything made from conventional corn or soy on a label, you can bet that it’s genetically modified (GMO) because the vast majority of these crops in the U.S. are GMO. Roundup-Ready GMO crops are designed to be sprayed with the herbicide glyphosate and have been shown to accumulate glyphosate. This is a big deal because glyphosate has been deemed a “probable carcinogen” according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and is also believed to destroy healthy gut bacteria, just like antibiotics do.
Rice Starch, Rice Flour & Brown Rice Syrup – Rice is a very common in gluten-free diets, but it’s notoriously contaminated with arsenic, which is a “potent human carcinogen” according to scientists at Consumer Reports and classified as a group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. In 2012, Consumer Reports tested more than 200 rice products and found significant levels of arsenic in several rices (especially brown), rice cereals, rice cakes, rice crackers, rice pasta, rice flours, and brown rice syrup. This can be a problem in gluten-free diets, because rice is found in so many gluten-free foods.
Monoglycerides and diglycerides are food additives commonly used to combine ingredients containing fats with those containing water, two types of ingredients that don't ordinarily combine well. Food manufacturers typically use them to extend a product's shelf life. Made in part of fatty acids, they are similar to triglycerides. In 2006, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration began requiring that all food manufacturers list a food's trans fat content on the label. This law applies to lipids, like triglycerides, but not to emulsifiers like mono- and diglycerides. Therefore, even though mono- and diglycerides may contain trans-fatty acids, they do not fall under these labeling requirements. This means a food may be labeled as possessing "0% trans fat" yet still contain trans-fatty acids from mono- and diglycerides.
It all starts with your gut. 80% of your immune system is in your gut. How many of you have digestive issues? That is a warning sign that your body is communicating to you but you may be ignoring. We live in a fast paced world. Most of us are on auto pilot. At some point you will run out of steam and if you don't take an active role in your wellness you will be forced to slow down because of sickness.

There are healthier options: Choose pastas that are made from lentils or beans, like these ones – or make your own “noodles” out of spaghetti squash and zucchini
Here is a simple recipe where you can make zucchini noodles. Its fun too! You can eat the noodles raw. You can saute' them. You can add some organic chicken or if you are a vegetarian omit the meat. https://www.loveyourselfloveyourhealthnaturally.com/love-yourself-love-your-health-blog/tag/zucchini
